June 18 – July 29, 2010
Lillian Davis Hogan Galleries, Saint Mary's University of Minnesota and
Paul Watkins Gallery, Winona State University
Winona, Minnesota
This competitive exhibition is the second annual show to be held in Winona, Minnesota. It is designed to promote the visual arts in Winona and the southeastern part of the state, as well as nearby regions in Wisconsin and Iowa. A non-profit corporation, Fine Artists of Southeast Minnesota, Inc., was formed in 2008 solely for the purpose of mounting this annual show.
The exhibition is timed to coincide with Winona's two annual festivals, the Great River Shakespeare Festival, currently in its sixth season, and the Minnesota Beethoven Festival, now in its fourth season. Both festivals bring to Winona professional actors, directors, and musicians including the Minnesota Symphony and this year the renowned cellist, Yo Yo Ma. FASEM's desire is to mount an art exhibition with as a high a professional standard as the plays and music that are performed each summer in Winona, and the goal is to continue making the show an annual summer event.
The exhibition, to be held in two Winona venues – the art galleries of Saint Mary's University of Minnesota and Winona State University – will attract a large number of visitors attending the Shakespeare plays and Beethoven concerts. This season’s plays, Othello and The Comedy of Errors, will be performed on the Winona State campus, near the university gallery; many of the concerts as well are played on or near the campus.
The exhibition will open Friday, June 18 and continue through July 29, 2010. Receptions at both galleries are scheduled for June 18 starting at 6:00 pm at WSU and continuing at 8:00 at SMU until 10:00 pm. Prizewinners will be honored during the receptions. The artists and the public are invited to attend.
The exhibition will be judged by Elizabeth Armstrong, Assistant Director of Exhibitions and Programs/Curator of Contemporary Art, Minneapolis Institute of Art.

The entry fee per artist is $20.00 (includes a maximum of three entries). A check or money order for the fee must accompany an application. Checks should be made out to FASEM.
FASEM communicates with applicants by email. Be sure to print your email address large and legibly on the application form. Important communications may not reach you otherwise.
The application must be postmarked no later than April 16, 2010, to be considered. Applications must include the completed form, the entry fee, and the CD of images.
Jurying Procedure Using CDs and Actual Work
The jurying consists of two phases: the first or preliminary phase is conducted by means of CDs. Individual works meriting inclusion in the exhibition will be selected and given provisional acceptance. Artists will be notified to deliver the actual chosen piece (or pieces, if more than one is selected) to the Lillian Davis Hogan Galleries at Saint Mary's University in Winona, Minnesota (see address below).
Images of no more than three entries are to be presented on a CD. The images must be in jpg format, maximum dimension of 1000px vertically or horizontally. The disk must be labeled with the artist's full name and email address with permanent marker. For 3-D work, more than a single view may be provided.
Image files on the CD are to be named in the following method:
Firstname_Lastname_Entry#1
Firstname_Lastname_Entry#2
Firstname_Lastname_Entry#3
Note: CDs of accepted work will be retained for publicity purposes until the exhibition closes. CDs of both accepted and unaccepted work will be returned only if a SASE is provided. Any accepted work resulting from the preliminary jurying that differs from the image on CD will be disqualified at the final jurying. By submitting work to the exhibition, the exhibiting artist agrees to the conditions set forth in this prospectus.
On approximately May 15, artists whose works have been given provisional acceptance of a work or works will be notified by email. For those without email access, a phone call will be made. If you do not receive an email or phone call, contact Dennis Jennings at 507-454-8804 or dennisj@hbci.com.
